Once again I am interacting with you through this column with tremendous joy and content after completing the term as Chairman of Trichur Branch of SIRC of ICAI. Throughout the tenure, the brand value of our ICAI in the society was upheld with the able support of each one of you. The period also marked the organization of some outstanding programmes for the benefit of our members and visit of the versatile personalities like Hon’ble President CA G Ramaswamy, Vice President CA Jayadeep Shah, SIRC Chairman CA Shanmukha Sundram K., Dr. A K Dubey, IAS Principal Secretary, Finance, Govt of Kerala, Mr. E T Luckose IRS Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mr. K.G Joseph Jackson (Registrar of Companies, Kerala, Mr. P Vijayan, IPS (City Police Commissioner, Thrissur) who addressed our branch.
Now it is the time for me to say goodbye from the prestigious seat of Chairman of the Trichur Branch of SIRC of ICAI. It is of great satisfaction to see that the activities of the Trichur branch has increased manifold in the past few years, thanks to the dedicated efforts of our past chairmen and office bearers. Our membership strength has reached nearly 500. With full fledged classes for CPT, IPCC, Final, Orientation, Information Technology training and GMCS. This year 1300 students underwent coaching from the institute including 300 students in 7 batches of GMCS and 500 students in CPT. The period was also marked with regular conducting of knowledge upgradation programmes like Seminars, workshops, and study circles for the members. To bring into more young talents to our profession, various awareness programme for students were also conducted.
I would also like to highlight a few of our achievements which we are able to achieve during the period with our collective efforts:
Ø National Award – Our Branch was awarded with a National Award for the ‘Best Commended performance’ in the medium sized Branches for the year 2011. The prestigious award was received from the President of ICAI, CA G. Ramaswamy during the annual function held at Hotel Asoka, New Delhi on 11th February 2012.
Ø The Best Branch and SICASA award in the Southern region - During this year SIRC awarded the Best Branch and SICASA award in the Southern region to our branch. All the credit goes to each one of you for your overwhelming support and guidance given to our branch activities. This is the recognition of the team work of the Trichur members.
Ø Infrastructure Development - To keep up with the fast changing accounting environment worldwide and to equip our members and future generation to meet the increased requirements and challenges, we have chalked out ambitious plans with the state-of-the-art technology for the future. Needless to add, the present infrastructure is grossly insufficient. Hence, the need for the new building
· 11th April 2011 – Our Hon’ble president of ICAI CA G. Ramaswamy announced the sanctioning of our new project in the record time for the land measuring 88 cents along with theatre building 1.5 kms away from present building at Chiyyaram during his official visit at Branch.
· 30th April 2011 – Registration of the Property completed of above land for Rs.4.63 crores with the wholehearted support of members and ICAI headquarters.
· 28th Sept. 2011 – The Foundation stone for the new building for Trichur branch was laid by our Honb’le President of ICAI CA G Ramaswamy.
· 11th November 2011 - ICAI sanctioned the amount of Rs.1.35 Crore for the renovation of the new branch building Construction.
· 5th February 2012 - The Grand Inauguration of the First Phase of our new branch Building “ICAI BHAWAN” by our Hon’ble President of ICAI CA G Ramaswamy in the presence of our SIRC Chairman CA K.Shanmukhasundram marked the occasion.
I take this opportunity to thank Our Hon’ble President CA G Ramaswamy who has been our motivation and our guiding spirit has extended his whole hearted support to enable us to complete the project. It is needless to say that the above venture wouldn’t have been achieved without the immense support and help from the Institute and our members.
Acknowledgments
Before laying down the office of Chairman of the branch I would like to put on record at least a few, who have given their unstinted support to make our branch events a great success. I, on behalf of the branch would like to place on record our appreciation to the contributions made especially by the Vice Chairman CA Geo Job, Treasurer CA Shajan T.T. Immediate Past Chairman CA Satheesan P., Past Chairman CA P.J Shaji, editor of our News Letter put a lot of efforts in bringing the News Letter with a new vigour and all other members whose constant efforts, hard work, co-operation and support helped in our consistent growth. I take this opportunity to convey my heartfelt thanks to Mr. Geo K.M, Secretary for his efforts to ensure the successful conduct of all programmes of our Branch. His presence and motivation have been real contributors to the success of the programmes. I also thank CA T. A. Thomachen who has given immense support to liaison with the ICAI headquarters. Above all, my sincere gratitude and thanks to our highly respected President CA G.Ramaswamy for his visionary approach in all matters of branch and providing me all guidance and advice in discharging my duties and I am therefore indebted to him.
I took charge of Trichur Branch, one of the vibrant branches of SIRC on 16th February 2011. During this tenure, there were plenty of challenges to compete, grow, perform and prove our worth. With the whole hearted support from all of you, we could convert all these challenges into opportunities and our branch could scale enviable new heights. Today, our branch has become an icon of the ICAI and our presence is also felt in national level. But, we should not rest on our laurels. We have a dream of becoming a leading branch of ICAI. Dreams do come true! We are confident that our dream would become a reality with your active support.
Today, I hand over the charge of Chairman, to my colleague CA Geo Job. Before putting my pen down, let me again acknowledge the overwhelming support provided to me by our members and students and thank them all for the same. I also request all of you to extend the same support to my successor and continue to enjoy the healthy relationship with the branch.
